Child Safeguarding Policy

The welfare of children comes first in everything we do.

Draft for review. This policy is a working draft. It must be reviewed by the foundation and qualified legal counsel, including against the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Child's Rights Act, before it is relied upon.

Our commitments

  • Children do not create accounts or contact the foundation directly through this platform. All communication is with a parent or legal guardian.
  • We collect only the information about a child that we need to assess an application.
  • We never publish names, photographs or details that could identify a child or family, and we never use a child's image without informed consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Staff and volunteers who can see children's records are given access only for their role, and their access is logged and reviewed.
  • Support is never conditional on anything other than the published eligibility criteria.

Staff conduct

Foundation staff must not contact children directly, request personal favours or payments, or use information from applications for any other purpose. Breaches are treated as serious misconduct.

Raising a concern

If you are worried about a child's safety, or about the conduct of anyone acting for the foundation, please contact our designated safeguarding lead: Placeholder: To be confirmed by the foundation. If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police or local emergency services first.

Concerns are handled confidentially and promptly, and will be referred to the appropriate authorities where required.
